Discover the World-Famous Sipadan Island
For diving enthusiasts, Semporna is closely associated with Sipadan Island, one of Malaysia’s most renowned marine destinations. Sipadan is an oceanic island rising about 600 metres from the seabed and is surrounded by an exceptionally rich marine ecosystem. Sabah Parks records more than 400 fish species and hundreds of coral species in the area.
Divers may encounter sea turtles, schools of barracuda, reef fish and colourful coral communities. Sipadan’s conservation measures also mean that access is controlled, making advance planning an important part of the experience.
Experience the Beauty of Tun Sakaran Marine Park
Another major attraction is Tun Sakaran Marine Park, located off Semporna. The park covers approximately 340 square kilometres of sea and coral reef and includes eight islands, including Bohey Dulang, Bodgaya, Mantabuan and Sibuan.
The area is perfect for travellers who want to experience the beauty of Sabah’s marine environment through snorkelling, diving and island hopping.
With its combination of volcanic islands, clear waters and coral reefs, Tun Sakaran Marine Park provides a completely different experience from an ordinary beach holiday.
Capture the Famous Bohey Dulang View
One of the most memorable experiences in Semporna is hiking Bohey Dulang Island.
Bohey Dulang Island
The trail takes visitors uphill through a forested landscape before reaching a viewpoint overlooking the surrounding islands and lagoon. Sabah Tourism Board describes the hike as approximately 700 metres uphill, while Sabah Parks highlights the island’s volcanic landscape and its 353-metre peak.
The panoramic view from the top makes the hike particularly rewarding—and it is also an excellent opportunity for photography.
Explore an Incredible Underwater World
Semporna is not only about beautiful beaches. Beneath its clear waters is a fascinating world filled with coral reefs and marine creatures.
